ABOUT THE BEAUTY DISRUPTOR
TITILAYO ASMARA: CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY
Titilayo Asmara has worked behind the scenes in the beauty industry since 2007; Mainly in the areas of product formulation, packaging design, beauty branding and market research. After breaking away from the L'Oréal Group she suddenly decided to start a website in 2021 while working on a research project that studied how beauty brands market to consumers across different social media platforms. During her research she quickly discovered how the beauty industry was instilling fear in the younger generation, with Gen Z increasingly becoming obsessed with youth and aging. While older women were being pushed out of the beauty space altogether, and becoming almost obsolete. The lack of representation of older women and fear based marketing tactics inspired her to create this blogsite.
In her exact words, “I felt it was time to change the narrative in the beauty industry. There’s so much age discrimination today, especially towards women. Even though I consider myself fortunate to not have experienced that yet, ageism is a real thing for women in midlife.”
Fuelled with the passion and desire to create change, she then goes on to say, “The main reason why I started this blog was to crush every stereotype of what a 40+ woman should look like. We can be youthful, fit, stylish, sexy or whatever else we decide to be. Do you know why? Because we decide; We choose how society perceives us. It’s not the other way around.”
Seeing things from a different vantage point, Titilayo hopes that this blog will serve as a catalyst for change, create community, inspire positive dialogues, while also celebrating and empowering women, as well as welcome younger women on the verge of entering the 40+ category.

TITILAYO ASMARA REDEFINING ANTI-AGING: A NEW APPROACH TO BEAUTY, HEALTH AND WELLNESS
Titilayo has always been an advocate of holistic health and wellbeing. At the age of 18, she became interested in supplements and their health benefits. By age 19 she became a vegan, started juicing, and practicing yoga. At the time, she had no idea how her lifestyle choices would affect her skin. Titilayo wanted to stay healthy, and relied heavily on a plant-based diet. Looking back at her holistic journey to health and wellness, Titilayo now accredits her youthful appearance to a healthy diet and lifestyle choices. She is a firm believer that food is medicine, and that there is a direct correlation between health, wellness and beauty. As Titilayo fondly puts it, “beauty begins from the inside out.”
The world has changed greatly since her journey to health and wellness began. In today’s fast-paced world, health and wellness has now taken centre stage. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the need for self care, placing greater emphasis on their overall health and wellbeing. The concept of “anti-aging” has evolved into something more encompassing. It’s not just about combatting and correcting the signs of aging with beauty products; it’s also about slowing down the aging process, tackling age related diseases and defying cognitive decline. Consumers have gradually become more aware of the vital role of internal skin health in maintaining a youthful appearance, and other age defying strategies that go beyond the traditional scope of beauty.
With almost twenty years of experience working in the beauty industry and thirty years of leading a holistic lifestyle, Titilayo has combined her years of professional expertise and personal experience to create the Beauty Disruptor. The Beauty Disruptor isn’t just another beauty blog that highlights skincare and beauty products. This beauty blog is about a holistic approach to beauty, health and wellness. It’s not only about looking good and maintaining a youthful appearance; it’s about feeling good and staying healthy during the process.
