ABOUT THE BEAUTY DISRUPTOR
CHANGING THE FACE OF BEAUTY
Titilayo Asmara has worked behind the scenes in the beauty industry since 2007; Mainly in the areas of product formulation, packaging design, beauty branding and market research. She came to the decision to start a website in 2021 after working on a research project, and studying how beauty brands market across different social media platforms. During her research she quickly discovered how the beauty industry was instilling fear in the younger generation, with Gen Z increasingly becoming obsessed with youth and aging. While older women were being pushed out of the beauty space altogether, and becoming almost obsolete. The lack of representation of older women and fear based marketing tactics inspired her to create this blogsite.
In her exact words, “I felt it was time to change the narrative in the beauty industry. There’s so much age discrimination today, especially towards women. Even though I consider myself fortunate to not have experienced that yet, ageism is a real thing for women in midlife.”
Fuelled with the passion and desire to create change, she then goes on to say, “The main reason why I started this blog was to crush every stereotype of what a 40+ woman should look like. We can be youthful, fit, stylish, sexy or whatever else we decide to be. Do you know why? Because we decide; We choose how society perceives us. It’s not the other way around.”
Seeing things from a different vantage point, Titilayo hopes that this blog will serve as a catalyst for change, create community, inspire positive dialogues, while also celebrating and and empowering women. As well as welcome younger women on the verge of entering the 40+ category.
